6 - 9 Day Trip

This trip begins in the Quito UNESCO World Heritage City. From Quito you'll fly to the remote frontier town of Macas and from there, on to the put-in. Within hours of launching you'll enter a jungle Fantasia world. A world, too, where you'll learn about rain forest ecology and the fragile, intricate web of life that makes up this equatorial ecosystem. Adding fun and thrills to the trip are the many rapids you'll encounter. Early on, as the river alternates between wide valleys and narrow, intimate canyons, frequent boisterous Class III (intermediate) rapids provide fun-filled roller-coaster rides.

Exactly how many you'll encounter these first few days depends on the flow of the river. At lower water there are literally dozens with great waves and big punch! At higher water some of these are "washed out". As you continue downstream, tributary streams add to the river's volume, giving the ever-bigger waves even greater punch. As well, the canyon restricts and the rapids become more technical. On the last two days you'll enter a magnificent towering canyon where spectacular waterfalls cascade hundreds of feet into the river. Constriction caused by the canyon walls and massive boulders grant you numerous Class III and even more challenging Class IV rapids.

On leaving the river behind, visit the colonial town of Cuenca complementing your rafting adventure, allowing you a complete look at the rich tapestry of life in Ecuador. ROW can also arrange treks in the Andes, jungle lodge stays or extensions to the Galapagos Islands. ROW invites you to join them in Ecuador - to tread lightly, respectfully and with minds eager to learn.
