Overview

With its inception in 1981, Precision Rafting Expeditions set the standards for whitewater rafting the Youghiogheny River while giving adventurers exhilarating whitewater high action rafting trips away from the crowds.

The Youghiogheny River is one of the most beautiful and natural rivers in the eastern United States and still maintains it virgin forest along its banks. The “Yough” (pronounced “Yok”) begins as a mountain stream in the highlands of eastern West Virginia to a rapid fall in elevation from the Laurel Mountains making it one of the countries most famous for whitewater rafting. Eventually the river loses its wildness and takes on a more relaxed and meandering characteristic as it makes it journey to where it empties into the Monongahela River.

PRE guides are dedicated river professionals where whitewater is more than a business - it is a way of life. All guides are certified, most with over 20 years experience. PRE has a proud and excellent safety record and maintains all safety precautions as well as top quality equipment on all its trips.

Their philosophy is to give everyone a great ride, to feel the excitement of the run while still maintaining safety standards. Their motto is “Just add water, and we’ll do the rest.”

PRE uses self-bailing rafts on all whitewater trips as well as state-of-the-art inflatable kayaks. New in 1994 was the start of PRE’s kayak instruction program with both private lessons and group lessons with an instructor/student ratio of 1:3.

With some of the best whitewater on the East Coast, PRE accommodates not only rafters from the immediate five surrounding states but the rest of the country as well with easy driving from numerous, nearby airports. Besides the Youghiogheny (affectionately known as the “Yok”), PRE runs whitewater trips on the Cheat, the Big Sandy and the Russell Ford in West Virginia.
