Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Family Fun Meet your guides at the AURA River Center (210 Merlin Road, Merlin, OR) at 8:30am. You will be supplied with all the equipment you need, including a life jacket, helmet (optional for anyone over 12), wetsuit, splash top, and a community dry bag to store items like cameras during the day. The bag will be accessible, so plan on getting some great shots.
When everyone is geared up, it will be time to load up in the van and head to the river. At the put-in you will receive a thorough safety and paddling orientation before starting your journey down the river. Over the seven-mile morning float, you will run multiple Class I and II rapids and see beautiful scenery, including Hellgate canyon—featured in the movie The River Wild. The morning float is more focused on scenery than whitewater.
At lunchtime you’ll float into the beautiful Indian Mary Park where a picnic lunch will be waiting. After a relaxing meal in the shaded grass, you’ll head back to the boats and continue on your journey. The afternoon is the whitewater half of the day. You will see larger rapids than in the morning stretch. If the waves don’t keep you cool enough, take a dip in the beautiful pools between rapids. You will float the afternoon away enjoying the relaxed atmosphere with your family and friends until arriving at the take-out. There the guides will quickly pack up the gear and the vans will take you to the AURA River Center around 4:30pm.
Notes
Transportation This trip begins and ends in Merlin, Oregon. At the end of the trip, vehicles will meet you at the take-out for the return drive to Merlin (transport to the put-in and from the take-out is included in your fare).
About the Rogue River In 1968, the Rogue River became one of the first eight U.S. rivers to be designated a "Wild and Scenic" River. Beautiful old growth pines and twisted oaks grace the banks of this majestic river. In this bird and wildlife haven, osprey dive for fish; blue heron skim the sparkling water and deer and elk graze the banks.
