Imagine lying nestled in a hammock between two palm trees, watching the sun slowly descending below the Pacific Ocean. Howler monkeys sing strange and melodious songs as local guides prepare fresh lobster and margaritas for happy hour. Northwest Voyageurs’ ten-day adventure to Costa Rica is the perfect combination of adventure, peace, excitement, and relaxation. You will enjoy thrilling Class III and IV whitewater, pristine natural beauty, exceptional local guides and the chance to enjoy your adventure at whatever pace you want.
Over the course of this journey through Costa Rica, spend four days sea kayaking on the Pacific Coast in the Curu Wildlife Refuge. The paddling is perfect for both beginners and experienced sea kayakers. Guides will take you through thick mangroves as well as to several islands within the Gulf of Nicoya. The adventurous can learn to surf their kayaks in the beach break or paddle through a natural archway carved by the erosive powers of the Pacific Ocean. Motivated paddlers can explore out into the open ocean swells while beginners can refine their skills in the protected waters of the gulf.
For three nights, camp on a private beach with your own personal choir of howler monkeys. Guides serve up delicious Latin American fare including a wide variety of fresh fruits and salads as well as Happy Hour appetizers like fajitas and fresh lobster.
Return to San Jose for a night before heading to the eastern side of the country where Costa Rica's world renowned rivers flow. Spend three days on the Rio Pacuare, considered one of the greatest river trips in the world. For two nights, stay at a luxurious jungle lodge. Spend a day hiking through the rainforest, searching for exotic birds and wildlife and hunting for waterfalls and natural water slides. And for two days, paddle the Class III and IV rapids of the spectacular Pacuare.
Lastly, before returning to San Jose, spend one last day on the water rafting the Class IV Pasqua Section of the Rio Reventazon. This stretch offers some of the most exciting whitewater anywhere on the continent.
In total, spend four days sea kayaking, three days whitewater rafting, one full day hiking, and also have time for side hikes throughout the other days.
