There may be no better way to capture the essence of the West than to combine two of the region’s favorite activities — horseback riding and whitewater rafting. The majesty of Idaho’s mountains, the richness of its history, and the power of its rivers make a Saddle & Paddle trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
This expedition begins with a three to six-day Hells Canyon rafting trip. Days will be spent navigating exciting Class III and IV rapids, while evenings offer a chance to relax at the luxurious river camps on the beach. At the completion of this rafting adventure, spend a night at the bed & breakfast where a hot tub, fine food and relaxation await you. The next morning, the second leg of your adventure begins — a thrilling two to three-day horseback trip.
The first day riding will take you through national forest lands until you arrive at the historic Gilmore Ranch, a 19th century homestead. There, spend the next one to two days exploring the wilderness high above the Salmon River on horseback. Encounters with herds of deer and elk are common. Each day also includes some free time to enjoy a hike or to hook into a few trout in a local stream. Each night, return to the warmth of the bunkhouse and enjoy the fine meals prepared by your own personal chef. The Saddle & Paddle adventures are a perfect week long vacation for families and groups of friends.
