Overview
Northwest Voyageurs has been a leader in whitewater rafting and adventure travel in the American Northwest since the early 1980s, and this year it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The company offers deluxe whitewater rafting and many other expeditions catering to families, professionals and corporate groups. Whether you are looking for a one-day getaway or a weeklong adventure, Northwest Voyageurs has a trip suitable for you.
The Landscape Northwest Voyageurs proudly operates in the beautiful state of Idaho - home to more than half of the whitewater miles in the entire country! Their journeys take you to some of the most beautiful landscape in America. The powerful Snake River carves its way through Hells Canyon, the Nation’s deepest canyon. The scenery is awe-inspiring and the whitewater is legendary. The Salmon River is the longest free-flowing (un-dammed) river in the country, and winds through a whole host of wilderness terrain. Hikers and riders have the ability to explore national forest lands and wilderness areas situated high above the rivers. It is a diverse and remote landscape, and the company has a passion for sharing its precious corner of the world with its guests.
The Guides Northwest Voyageurs’ guides are their most important asset. A majority of them live in Idaho year round and grew up running the rivers on which they now serve as guides. Many of the company’s veteran guides each have well over a decade of professional guiding experience and even the younger staff members have typically been guiding for four to seven years. They are friendly, fun loving and eager to share their passion for the outdoors. They work extremely hard to ensure you have the adventure experience of a lifetime.
In Camp Northwest Voyageurs is known for going overboard (no pun intended) when it comes to luxuries. When you arrive in camp, you will find the kitchen, dining area, bathroom (toilet and hot shower) and your personal tents already set up. You will have plenty of time to relax, swim, fish, play horseshoes or take a nap. Hot showers are available each night as well as hot water for washing up. When you decide it’s bedtime, you’ll be fast asleep on the company’s extra-thick sleeping pads. With all these amenities, it’s often hard to remember that you are actually in the middle of the wilderness!
Oh, the Food! Unbelievable! This hardly describes the food served on your Northwest Voyageurs journey. The guides are amazing cooks and create gourmet meals recommended from the company’s very own gourmet chef. A typical dinner could include: fresh salmon marinated in a lime-dill sauce garnished with slices of lime and caramelized onions; fettuccine in a creamy alfredo sauce with roasted bell peppers and capers; asparagus sautéed in red-wine and garlic; and, fresh baked bread (yes, baked fresh on the river). Nightly hors d’oeuvres include river nachos, pot stickers and stuffed cabbage. Breakfasts feature a variety of fruit pancakes, made-to-order omelets and their own river Egg McMuffins. Lunch spreads have themes such as New York Deli and Middle Eastern Buffet. Oh, and the desserts! Homemade pineapple upside-down cake, fudge brownies, strawberry shortcake and the company’s famous chocolate chip cookies. Let’s just say the food is so good, it’s ridiculous!
Other Activities If you are interested in more than just whitewater rafting, Northwest Voyageurs probably has an adventure perfect for you. The company offers over 30 different itineraries that include whitewater rafting, hiking and trekking, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking, fishing and fly fishing. Many of these can be combined to create world-class multi-sport packages. The company also offers customized packages for groups and corporations that cater to your needs.
