It all sums up to a whitewater rafting vacation experience you won’t soon forget.
Maine is no longer just lobsters and lighthouses. More and more adventurers are discovering Maine has the best whitewater rafting in the Northeast. New England Outdoor Center was the first company in Maine to exclusively use self-bailing Maravia rafts and continues to be the leader in using the best boats and equipment.
New England Outdoor Center believes there is very little on this earth that beats a whitewater rafting adventure - whether you come by yourself, with family or with friends. Imagine plummeting through white walls of surging water, screaming and laughing. The excitement is a natural antidote to stress and a prescription for pure enjoyment. There’s also time for swimming, lounging in the sun, learning river country environmental history or trying one of their sit-on-top kayaks.
NEOC’s two primary rafting rivers, the Kennebec located in the western mountains and the Penobscot in the Katahdin/Baxter State Park region, are the two major waterways. The water flows are controlled by hydroelectric dams ensuring consistent and predictable flows. The Dead, which flows into the Kennebec, is also dam-controlled and rafted on select dates in the spring and fall. These are spectacular rivers - wild, scenic, challenging and exhilarating. You’ll know when you are in the wilderness when your raft in Maine. With easy access from Camden, Bar Harbor, Boothbay, Bangor or Portland, you can be looking at lighthouses in the afternoon and relaxing in raft country later that evening.
