Westwater Canyon (#WW1)
Westwater Canyon combines challenging whitewater and stunning scenery. You can enjoy all of it on NAVTEC's special one-day Westwater Canyon Expedition.
Your boatman rows you down the river's steep narrow gorge, expertly negotiating the rapids. You take in the sights and sounds of this remarkable stretch of the Colorado River - known for its wildlife, thrilling whitewater and canyon geology. Paddle rafts provide more active participation and are available on most trips. However, space is limited.
At noon, find a nice river beach and pull ashore for lunch. After a great lunch you'll have time to relax in the shade, take pictures and enjoy the beauty of the canyon.
Westwater Canyon was created where the Colorado River cut across the edge of an ancient mountain range. The mountain range pushed ancient precambrian rock to the Funnel Falls in Westwater Canyon surface. This is some of the oldest rock exposed on the planet at 1.75 billion years or almost half the age of the earth. This very hard, ancient rock forces the river into a narrow canyon creating Westwater and some great whitewater rapids as well. You'll never forget this first-class river adventure!
Your one-day Westwater Expedition begins at 8:00am at the NAVTEC office in Moab. Please arrive 15 minutes early. After a full day on the river, return to the office at about 6:30pm. All ground transportation included.
