Dr. Scott Underwood, MD
Scott founded Mother Lode River Trips over 30 years ago when it was known as "Scott Free". Since then, he has created one of the largest outfitters on the South Fork American River. Mother Lode, affectionately known as "Malode", is known for its friendly guides, outstanding safety record, gourmet meals, and beautiful 12-acre campgrounds.
| Dick Wright
In 1985, Dick canoed the South Fork American River, found a raft permit for sale, bought it, and founded CBOC Whitewater Adventures. 17 years later he retired, sold the company, and brought his marketing efforts to Mother Lode. Dick is easy to know, never meets a stranger, and has developed an uncanny rapport with the Mother Lode staff and guides, as well as the guests that raft each year.
| Penny Gonzales
Penny was born and raised in the El Dorado community of Georgetown. She is married with four children and currently lives in Coloma, CA. For many years, she was office manager for Jeepers, an off-roading jeep club in Georgetown. She joined CBOC Whitewater in 1998, took a couple of whitewater raft trips, and quickly realized she loved the sport and the people involved. She's the one that answers the phone with a smile, listens to your needs, and then books you on the proper trip. Call and you'll love her - we do!
| Bridget Hiles
Bridget has been rafting commercially since 1990. She fell in love with the whitewater community in 1986 while learning to kayak. She has worked commercially in PA, CO, WY, and CA, as well as many private raft trips including six trips on the Grand Canyon. During the off season, she manages Dave's Ski Shop in Tahoe City. This is her fourth year at Malode and is our Operations Manager.
| Randy Weiss
After completing his BS in Natural Resources from Ohio State University, Randy began his guiding career in 1999 in Aspen, CO, working as a dogsled driver in the winter and river guide in the summer. In this, his fourth season in California, he is working for Mother Lode as Head Boatman and doing a great job.
