'The Land of Adventure'
Our father, Alpert Quist, ran his first river trip on the Colorado River in 1947, organized for a group of Boy Scouts. He continued these trips through the 1960s, expanding to other Colorado Plateau rivers. Dad started taking us along when we were young. Having the great good fortune of "growing up" in the river canyons, we decided to form the company we still own and run today.
The Colorado Plateau is a huge geological area comprising much of Utah that also extends into the states of Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. It consists of some of the most scenic and diverse land forms in the world, ranging from from alpine mountain peaks reaching 13,000 feet above sea level to red rock deserts sculpted over the eons by wind and water. It is difficult to find any other place on earth where geological variation exists on such a grand scale.
Within the plateau's boundaries lie many internationally renowned and other lesser known national parks and monuments, including Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Canyonlands, Zions, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef and Arches National Parks, as well as Natural Bridges, Walnut Canyon, and Wupatki National Monuments. Approximately two million cultural resource sites document early human settlements on the plateau.
The region is transected by three fabled river systems - the San Juan, the Green, and the Colorado. The river vacations we offer focus on various canyons of the Green and the Colorado Rivers.
If you join one of our trips, we encourage you to open your eyes, ears and heart, and pay attention to what the river and the canyons have to tell you. We believe you will discover something you hadn't expected about nature and yourself - and you'll come away the richer.
We hope to meed you on the river soon! Richard, Bob, Clair, Pam and Annie Quist
