1 or 2-Day Trip
One of the last free-flowing rivers in California, the MERCED rushes out of Yosemite Valley to create a fascinating deep river canyon for the Intermediate rafting enjoyment! Wildflowers in spring; warm, clear air in early summer. How long you can enjoy the MERCED depends on the snow pack.
EXHILARATING WHITEWATER: The combination of thrilling wave trains, tight turns, and sections of continuing gradient drops interspersed with time to drift with the current and enjoy the wilderness scenery make the MERCED a perfect whitewater river. You raft through green, rolling hills, abundant with wildflowers in the spring, using your wetsuits to keep you warm and comfortable. Summertime fun means warm days, and calmer, yet still very exciting runs to enchant you.
ADVENTURESOME INTERMEDIATE RIVER: They consider the MERCED a solid, Class III-Class IV intermediate river. Water levels can vary each day as the High Sierra snow pack melts throughout the spring and early summer. Previous rafting experience is recommended, though an adventurous first-timer in good condition will have a great time!
ONE-DAY TRIPS: The MERCED is intense and challenging from the start, with many Class III and IV rapids with big waves and drops in the first nine miles. After a picnic lunch on the river bank, you enjoy many Class II-III rapids until you reach Split Rock and Corner Pocket, both exciting Class IV rapids that put the thrill into the end of the day. At mile 18 you take out for a well-deserved relaxing ride back to the starting point.
TWO-DAY TRIPS: Take a little more time to enjoy the wilderness canyon and more whitewater! At the end of the first day’s run, they shuttle your overnight gear by boat across the river to their remote and beautiful camping spot.
On the second day, if the water is too high, they will shuttle back upstream and do the first day’s exciting run again. With moderate water levels, you continue down river another 11 miles, enjoying exciting rapids that culminate with Quarter Mile, a stretch of tough and exciting Class IV rapids calling for precise maneuvering. The float into Lake McClure ends two perfect days of rafting!
