Overview
Hatch knows rafting – their name has been synonymous with river running since 1929. Bus Hatch, founder of Hatch River Expeditions, introduced a new style of outdoor adventure expeditions. Now, 75 years and a half million adventurers later, they’re still going strong, upholding the tradition of quality and service.
They are “The Original River Running Company”. As you prepare to choose an outfitter for your river expeditions, remember … THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR EXPERIENCE.
First-Class Guides What makes up an excellent river expedition? The obvious comes to mind. Of course, you need rafts with all the necessary gear and food … plus a guide. Your guide is probably the most important element of the trip you select. He or she is the one you depend on not only to safely navigate the river, but also to prepare your food, entertain you, and educate you.
Hatch guides are dedicated to providing you with an exceptional experience. From the moment you step off the bus at the launch point until the moment you say farewell at the end of the trip, they’ll be there for you.
Hatch guides are renowned for their culinary abilities, each with their own special flair for outdoor cooking. After a fabulous meal, there’s time for some (mostly true) river stories and an occasional appearance by the guides’ old camp friend, Hatchmo.
Your guides can also tell you about the history and physical aspects of the river canyons, plus the rich history of the company that started with Bus Hatch, the “Riverman”. Guides consider the river canyons their home and want to share their well kept home with you. You’ll go away with an insight into geology, archaeology, the flora and fauna, and environmental ethics.
Trips and Equipment Over their many years of experience, they’ve found that different things appeal to different people. That’s why Hatch is diverse in the kinds of trips and equipment they offer. Different rafts and set ups work best in different areas. Whatever trip you choose, you can be assured that you are getting the finest quality and safest equipment available.
Dining in the Hatch Tradition Hatch has designed and perfected the art of outdoor cooking They serve the finest meals available on any river expedition and take pride in their food. Meals on a Hatch expedition are almost a century of recipes and techniques, combined with the input of their in-house award-winning chef. He has spent many years with Hatch, providing a modern twist to classic Hatch delights, as only a professional could do.
Hatch is able to accommodate special dietary needs such a vegetarian menus, low cholesterol, and others. Contact them in advance so they can discuss your needs. They also like to help guests celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. Let Hatch know how they can make it special for you.
Commitment to the Lands They Love The philosophies of Hatch River Expeditions regarding the environment are quite simple. The Hatch family has been both professional and personal users of the river canyons dating back to the late 1920s. These areas have always been special to them – just like home.
Bus Hatch, one of the pioneers of river running and Hatch’s founder, stressed the importance of protecting the areas to his children and to those he guided down the rivers. They are wholly committed to the continued protection of this valuable resource and maintaining its integrity for many generations to see, for many years to come.
Hatch River Expeditions wants to show you, their guests, these beautiful and pristine areas and continue to pass along their important message, “take only pictures, leave only footprints”, as they have for over 75 years.
