Fishing trips and instruction are available to meet the needs and desires of any fisherman, including half and full-day fishing, two to five-day custom fishing trips, and five-day fly fishing school (check out Glacier Raft Co.’s Storefront at GordonsGuide.com under Fishing Guides).
Their multi-day trips give you the full Montana encounter with whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, sumptuous riverside feasts and camping under Big Sky country’s canopy of stars. You'll be guided by the hosts and technical advisors of the movie “The River Wild”.
In 1976, Onno Wieringa, Bill Hofmann, and Darwon Stoneman began Glacier Raft Company with two rafts, a van and a desire to share with others the beautiful Flathead River. Over the next ten years, they pioneered the Lower Flathead River in Polson, Montana; the Lochsa River in Idaho; and bought into an operation in Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River in Utah and the Kicking Horse River in Canada. By 1985, they were spread pretty thin (or wide). Bill Hofmann traded his rafting attire for a flying career, and Sally Thompson came aboard as a partner to take over the office and reservations. As they all began to have families, they felt the need to focus on the original rivers they fell in love with, “The Flathead”.
Since 1996, Glacier Raft Company has constructed nine deluxe cabins with breathtaking views of the mountains and Glacier National Park, just far enough off the highway so you aren't bothered by road noise but close enough to the Park to be “the best base camp you'll find in the area”. The new millennium saw the opening of their new year round facility which houses a complete fly shop, outdoor store, offices for cabin check-ins, multi-day check-ins and as the meeting place for all fishing trips.
