The San Miguel River begins in the San Juan Mountains above Telluride, Colorado, and ends at the confluence with the Dolores River 72 miles later. The San Miguel is more of a spring season free flowing river The river drops over 7,000 feet from an alpine ecosystem to the desert. This river offers the whitewater boater a variety of runs all within the class II-III range. The river's consistent gradient and continuous character provides boaters an abundance of whitewater, none of which is overly difficult. The riparian corridor is lush and contains many globally rare riparian plant communities that change dramatically with elevation, and support a wide variety of animal species.
Cooperative Land Management Bill Dvorak's Rafting & Kayak Expeditions works with the Nature Conservancy, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, and Colorado's Division of Wildlife to manage the San Miguel River Preserve to allow limited recreational use with permit access and emphasizes environmental protection and recreation-based environmental ethics.

Trip Itinerary
Days 1-5: Whitewater Rafting Meet at the launch site 8:30am. Bill Dvorak's will arrange for transfer of own vehicle to finish point. The day of rafting will begin with the lunch as your first meal. You will be rafting each day about five to seven hours with lunch stop, hikes, historical sites visits and general stops. You will usually arrive at your on river camp site about 3:30 to 4:30pm. Guides will set up camp, prepare your evening meal and arrange activity for the evening. Guests can relax, take a nap, read, play river games with the crew and swim and enjoy the camp atmosphere.
Days 2-5 are fairly similar with of course each day having something new and sometimes unexpected thrills: flora, fauna and of course excellent whitewater rapids to enjoy as well. The last day of your trip will end around 1:00 to 3:00pm depending on your previous night's camp and the distance to the take out. Unloading your personal gear and arranged shuttles will give you your transportation from your adventure with Dvoraks to your next destination.
