This wilderness trip is in the warm sun of southern Texas and goes to the Mexican border. The river winds through the solitude and silence of deep chasms, rocky flats and desert mountains. The water is baked in the southern sun to a temperature of 70 degrees with daytime highs of 60 to 90 degrees. The desert spring bloom during March and April adds a special dimension to this journey into southern wilderness. This river section has been Designated Wild and Scenic and has quiet water stretches and good rapids, fascinating hikes to old homesteads and to the mysterious Candelilla ruins. The pace offers time to perfect boating and kaykaking skills with instruction or to relax on the rafts.

Trip Itinerary
Days 1-7: This excellent Spring Break trip offers the novice to intermediate kayaker the opportunity to advance their skills in warm water and weather. Meeting and pick up from Midland Texas lodging at 7:30am on Day 1. Dvoraks will transport group to the river about four-hour drive. Launch late afternoon to first night's camp. All meals from Dinner Day 1 through lunch last day are included.
The next seven days will include hikes, hot springs to swim, paddling kayaks, relax on oar rafts, reading, napping and general river play. You will most likely have one layover day or an extra few hours for enjoying a hot springs soak. Camping equipment can be rented or bring your own. Fishing is "Catfish" and you need a Texas license to try your luck at these 20-80 pound wonders!
On the last day, lunch at the finish point, load up the gear and travel back to Midland, TX, to your lodging. You should not plan your return flight until the Sunday morning. Trip back to Midland is about 4.5 hours.
