In the tiny kingdom of Nepal, the same beautiful mountain ranges that draw climbers from around the world, shape an incredible variety of whitewater challenges for paddlers. Some of the mightiest mountain rivers in the world are found here. The diverse geography of this small country encompasses extremes from the highest peaks on earth to steamy lowland jungles. Situated between India and China, Nepal is only 100 miles wide, but rises from sea level on the Gangiatic plain to over 29,000 feet at the top of Mt. Everest. Karnali "The Western Bend" is a gem, with some of the prettiest canyons and jungle scenery available in Nepal. In high water the Karnali is a serious commitment, combining HUGE though fairly straight-forward rapids with a seriously remote location. It is the largest and longest river in all of Nepal.
This unique trip includes time in Kathmandu; travel by rickshaw and bus to Surkhet; a two-day trek through forests and bamboo groves with some lung busting climbs to the Karnali River; seven days on the river; a variety of activities including elephant safaris, canoeing with the Gangetic Dolphins, jungle walks and bird watching, returning to Kathmandu.
