   Overview

The world’s leading travelers have known for years that there is magic in the magnetic north. Alaska and Northern Canada host some of the most spectacular and dramatic features on the planet. National parks, World Heritage Sites, canyons, glaciers, mountain peaks, wildlife – all under the midnight sun – and woven together by rivers! This is North America’s last great wilderness, rivaling Africa in its inspiring collage of nature, wildlife, ecosystems and adventure. With migrating herds of caribou and birds, waterfalls twice the height of Niagara and Canada’s deepest river canyons, hot springs and glaciers, a rich history of Klondike pioneers and a thriving First Nation culture, this is a vibrant world that will fascinate you.

Neil Hartling, founder, began his career on the world famous Nahanni River. He fortuitously won the rare outfitting license by saving the lives of a local native family who in turn granted him the privilege to guide on the river. According to Hartling “it is a fabled land, larger than life, and it exceeded my expectations. It never fails to impress our guests.” Over the years, he has introduced thousands of participants to the north and overseen the evolution of these trips to make them as comfortable, adventurous, educational and enjoyable as possible. There are also multi-sport, including hiking, photography, wildlife viewing, fishing, glacier walking, birding and wildflowers to name a few.

With over 30 unique rafting, canoeing, hiking and kayaking adventure travel trips – from 5 to 21 days - on 20 northern rivers, Canadian River Expeditions have been the leaders in river adventure for northern Canada and Alaska since 1972.

Canadian River Expeditions believes they offer you the opportunity to not only embrace adventure in a unique destination, but on a river trip that is truly of the highest quality in every respect, honed from years of experience in the adventure travel business. Canadian River Expeditions delivers trips with an authenticity that mirrors the last natural, unspoiled wilderness traveled through in North America. Along the way, you live comfortably, eat well and laugh a lot.

Authentically Canadian River Expeditions
Canadian River Expeditions is heartened that being “green” is so in vogue… although frankly, Canadian River Expeditions has been green since 1972! Their longstanding commitment to the environment is one of their most important values and one that Canadian River Expeditions is exceedingly proud of. You might hear talk of “ecotourism”… at Canadian River Expeditions, you will find the very definition of this - in practice. Canadian River Expeditions decided many years ago (in the beginning) to make the environment a priority and have been an active political advocate in support of this objective. Canadian River Expeditions donates hundreds of hours to environmental causes every year.

An Experienced Leader
At Canadian River Expeditions, they helped pioneer the sport of whitewater padding in the early 70s. From the iconic Nahanni River to the high Arctics’ Soper, from Alaska to Nunavut, Canadian River Expeditions knows all of their 20 rivers well – from their campsites to their eddies to their rapids to their wildlife, geology and history. Canadian River Expeditions has in depth knowledge guiding multi-day wilderness trips from contingency planning to operational logistics to how to bake cinnamon buns for breakfast over a camp fire. They make it a point to stay on the cutting edge of land and water use legislation to ensure that their river gear and equipment is of the highest quality and their guide skills incorporate the latest in whitewater safety standards. Canadian River Expeditions has taken over 10,000 paddlers downriver since 1972 and their guest repeat rate of over 40% speaks for itself.

So put on your most adventurous hat and come and see why the “magnetic north” is so attractive!
