Miners in the late 1800s viewed these eight rapids on the northern section of the Arkansas as non-navigable landmarks rather than as the quintessential Class IV classics that they’re viewed as today; hence they appointed them the numbers that remain today as their names. The simplicity of their labels, however, does not reflect a simplicity in their character. This run is charged with high-intensity continuous whitewater and punctuated by the eight notorious Numbers.
