The Rogue is a river that inspires strong loyalty. Many guests return here year after year, making it a regular part of their vacation plans. The river offers a near perfect combination of exciting but safe rapids, warm water, a lovely green canyon, a comfortable pace and plenty of wildlife. It is a wonderful river for families and beginners, yet offers enough whitewater excitement for young adults and river veterans.
Wildlife on the Rogue includes deer, black bears (visible but too timid to be a problem), osprey, bald eagles and river otter. AC often spots salmon on their way to their breeding grounds upstream, and they think a beaver has moved in across from one of their regular camps. A special treat is to watch an osprey dive into the river, come up with a fish, and carry it to its nest.
Most Rogue trips are four days long, with three nights of camping. In late May and early June, Adventure Connection runs three-day lodge trips, with two nights in the canyon. One or both of these nights are spent in lodges located along the river. Beginning on several Saturdays in the summer, AC runs three-day trips with one night of camping and one night at a lodge.
There is much to see and do in the area before or after your Rogue trip. Crater Lake is two and a half hours from the meeting place, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland is about an hour away. End the trip about 30 miles from the ocean, and the Oregon coast is beautiful. Redwood National Park in California is less than two hours away. One can easily build a longer vacation around a Rogue trip.

Trip Itinerary
Day 1: The Morning of Your Trip At 9:00am your head guide will meet you in front of the Galice Resort. Look for him or her (wearing a hat or T-shirt) in the parking lot or inside the store. Come to the meeting point dressed in your river clothes. A shuttle van will take you on a five-minute ride to the Almeda Bar put-in. Final preparations (loading your waterproof bags onto boats and a safety talk) will take about an hour. Be sure to eat a hearty breakfast before your trip. There is a restaurant and small store at the Galice Resort (7:00am to 9:00pm).
Day 2: On the River The pace of your river trip is very dependent on the water level! You will usually spend four to five hours a day on the river. Breakfast is served about 8:00am and you are on the water by about 10:00am. There will be a stop mid-day for lunch and maybe some short hikes. Set up camp in the late afternoon, allowing time to hike and relax before dinner. If you are new to camping, the guides will be happy to help you.
Day 3: After the Trip The trip ends at Foster Bar in the early afternoon. At this time you say goodbye to your guides (except your head guide) and board a charter van, which will return you and your gear to Galice (unless you have arranged a car shuttle). The van trip takes about two to three hours, arriving back in Galice late afternoon (around 4:00 to 5:00pm). It’s a beautiful but windy drive: those prone to carsickness may want to be prepared with Dramamine.
