Sea Kayaking has become one of the most popular paddling experiences around. Adventure Connection is proud to offer two-day trips that include BOTH river rafting on either the South or Middle Forks of the American River and sea kayaking on beautiful Lake Tahoe. Trips always begin at base camp on the South Fork of the American River in Coloma. Spend one day on the river and one day on the lake. Which day depends on water releases and other factors – let Adventure Connection know if you’ve a preference… they will always try to accommodate your wishes.
Adventure Connection rates the South Fork of the American River as the best river in California for both first-time and more experienced rafters. As the premier dam-controlled river in California, the South Fork is a consistent Class III intermediate whitewater river, and it has become AC's most popular vacation for individuals, families, groups of friends and company recreation trips. Because of its abundant dam-controlled releases it is available daily from April through September. The river offers a wide range of adventures, with over 50 exciting rapids interspersed with calm, slower stretches where you can enjoy the beautiful canyon scenery and each other's company.
The Middle Fork of the American River is also one of California’s most utilized whitewater resources. Along its 17-mile length you will encounter an amazing array of rapids... all the way from Class III thrillers to Class V bare-knuckle hold-your-breath adventures. The Middle Fork is appropriate for ages 14 and older while we have a 7-year-old age limit for the South Fork American. Children ages 7 and older can do both the South Fork American and the sea kayaking in Tahoe.
Adventure Connection knows you’ll enjoy the opportunity to experience both these great paddling excursions. They look forward to seeing you on the river AND the lake!!

Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Let’s assume you’re doing a two-day trip with Day One up at the Lake. Start with a hearty breakfast and be transported up to Lake Tahoe (only 67 miles east). There you’ll receive instruction in paddling your sea kayak. Most trips take place in the exquisitely beautiful and aptly named Emerald Bay. Lunch is included. At the end of your paddling day, Adventure Connection will transport you back down to the riverside base camp where appetizers await you while they prepare a fabulous supper just for you.
Day 2: Day Two begins with another hearty breakfast before jumping into rafts and tackling either the Class III intermediate South Fork of the American River or the more adventurous Class IV-V Middle Fork of the American. Both trips include a delicious lunch and, at the end of the day, AC will bring you back to base camp where you can take a shower, change into something more comfortable and get ready for the rest of your vacation!
