Nestled in a perfectly pristine part of the central Adirondacks, the Hudson River Gorge is rated as one of the Top 10 whitewater runs in America. And no wonder! This is the Hudson as she used to be ... crystal clear, clean, alive and powerful, as she thunders beneath hundred foot granite cliffs, and over awesome rapids like Givneys' Rift, the Narrows, Little Nasty and Greyhound Bus Stopper. The Hudson is most powerful in the spring and fall; somewhat more moderate in mid-summer. Scheduled dam releases assure terrific fun all season long.
Special releases from Lake Abanakee add even more excitement to the high adventure Spring season, and provide enhanced flows on selected dates during the Summer and Fall. The rafting center is conveniently located alongside the river, on Route 28, in North River, NY, where a hearty dinner follows each day's trip.
A ride on the Hudson at Springtime levels is an experience you won't soon forget. The unparalleled blending of western-style whitewater and wilderness scenery make this a favorite run even among guides. At higher springtime levels, you may even see Class V whitewater on this stretch of the river.
Summertime brings more moderate flows and Class II, III, and III+ rapids to the Hudson. This is the perfect time to explore the gorge at a more relaxed pace.
