Monument Valley is world-famous as a Navajo Tribal Park and as the backdrop for numerous Western films. Mesas, buttes and pinnacles have eroded over eons to form this magical land.
Welcome and "yah-ta-hey" to spectacular Monument Valley, which is located west of the four corners region of the United States on U.S. Highway 163. The first Navajo Tribal Park was established on July 11, 1958 by the Navajo Tribal Council in Window Rock, Arizona. The Navajo land is approximately 25,000 square miles. The population of the Navajo people totals more than 159,000.
Monument Valley is partly in Arizona and Utah. There are many mesas, buttes and slender, towering pinnacles that have eroded over a vast area. This magic land is highly scenic, unique and unlike any other place. Most formations are brilliant red, orange, purple and even bluish color.
