Horseback riding in the La Sal Mountains, located southeast of Moab, adds a high country experience to go with your river expedition. Abundant pine and aspen, wildflowers, and wildlife--so near to the desert--will surprise you.
This 5-day, 4-night combination horseback/Colorado River trip through Cararact Canyon in Canyonlands National Park allows you to experience the best of the southwest. This trip meets at the Adrift Adventures office at 9:00 a.m. An hour drive to the base of the La Sal Mountains is the beginning of your journey. The landscape changes from cool alpine on horse to the colorful red rock country in rafts. You'll spend two days and one night exploring the high country. Trails wind through the stands of pine and aspen, past open meadows splashed with wildflowers. Wildlife--especially deer is abundant, as are the views of the adjacent desert. Return the following day to Moab early afternoon for an overnight stay in one of the local Moab hotels.
The next morning you depart for a three-day Cataract Canyon river trip. You'll have an excellent time with a return the third day on the river to Moab at approximately 3:00pm.
