The Royal Gorge is renowned for its spectacular scenery and the intensity of its rapids. As the river cuts through sheer granite walls over 1,000 feet high, rafters plunge through huge waves and stupendous drops, making the rapids as breathtaking as the scenery. The Gorge mixes easier, but exciting, whitewater, such as Primero and Segundo, with some of the most intense rapids on the Arkansas River, including the infamous Sunshine, Sledgehammer, the Narrows, Wall Slammer and Boat Eater. Rafters should be in good physical condition and have previous rafting experience.
