Outrageous Fun! The Intermediate Gauley is a blast! It features exciting and technical runs through one of the East’s most scenic whitewater river canyons. This refreshing, wild and beautiful stretch of river is full of foam-capped rapids, fun surfing waves, and a spine tingling jump rock. It is also offers plenty of time to kick back and enjoy this unique whitewater experience. On this section, the drops are not as steep as those of the Upper Gauley and there are calm rescue pools below every rapid. While a swim on the Upper Gauley can be a serious event, the Lower section is much more forgiving. As with the Upper, ACE varies the boat size and the access points to customize the best trip possible for the river conditions.
If this is your first whitewater trip, ACE especially recommends the Intermediate Spring & Summer Gauley. This is the perfect section of river to try a Ducky. Skillful guides with a penchant for fun lead the way throughout the day, giving you a thorough orientation, including paddling techniques and special safety measures. Driving your own boat on a true whitewater river is something you’ll always remember.
