Planning an extended stay in Montreal or Ottawa, why not treat the adventurer in you? This two-day/two-night “mini expedition” is perfect for anyone wanting to spend the weekend in nature and enjoy the thrill of rafting or kayaking on class III – IV whitewater. The trip covers about 40km (25 miles) on the Gatineau River, home to the Gatineau River Festival, and is a threatened river by hydroelectric development.
“Tengatin” or “never ending river”, its native name runs from the Basketong Resevoir to The Ottawa River 325km (200 miles) southwest. It was renamed to “La Gatineau” in memory of Nicolas Gatineau, a fur trader who frequently navigated this river during the booming fur trade, around 1650.
Your safety and the environment is of primary concern during any ABV Kayak & Excursions adventure. Only experienced professional rafting guides with up-to-date wilderness first aid and river rescue certifications are hired. In addition, eco-friendly “leave-no-trace” camping policies keep the environment in its pristine state for others to enjoy.
Kayakers welcome! Paddle light and enjoy the freedom of having someone else carry your gear. Expeditions include raft support for any kayaker who wishes to join one of ABV's fantastic multi-day adventures.

Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Day one is dedicated entirely on rafting, so you camp at the put-in the night before! You will meet your guides at the rendezvous point who will help you with packing your gear and making sure you have everything needed for a comfortable journey. When all the gear is ready to go, you will be provided transportation to the put-in where camp is set up and your guides prepare dinner. Camaraderie by the campfire will prepare the soul for an uplifting and exciting day ahead. Waking to the smell of fresh brewed coffee engages the senses, and the show starts! After a hearty breakfast, break camp, prepare the gear to hit class III - IV rapids over 17km (10 miles).
Day 2: Sadly, the Gatineau is a threatened river due to hydroelectric development, therefore you must avoid a large dam located on the upper section of the river. After breakfast, shuttle with all the gear to the lower section near the town of Maniwaki, where more advanced rapids await. Class IV and V rapids with names like “Lucifer”, “Beluga”, “The Wall”, and “High Tension” to name a few. Round out the day with body-surfing at the “Bonnet Rouge” a class IV rapid deep enough to swim down as many times as you dare.
