One of the best wilderness whitewater trips in Quebec; it is little known and little traveled. Loaded with impressive waterfalls, rapids and wildlife, this trip's six-day itinerary will take you more than 73 km over class IV and V whitewater.
The Broadback is approximately 435km (270 miles) of wild, untamed river flowing from lake Trovlus, through lake Quénomisca, and finally into James Bay, near the Cree village Waskaganish. Waskaganish aka. Fort Rupert was one the first trading posts built by Pierre-Esprit Radisson et Médart Chouart, sieur Des Groseillers in 1668.
The Cree call this river Chistamiskau Sipi or “deep river” and Matauchun Sipi or “where water goes in different directions”. These Cree names reflect the Broadback's unique features which you will experiencee first hand with the help of your guide. Along the way, magnificent landscapes of Quebec's northern region such as the fauna of the Taiga forest – one of the most important forest systems in the world, so vast, it encircles the Earth!
